Sonic and the Secret Extended Edition (previously known as Sonic 1: The Other Extended Edition, not to be confused with Sonic the Hedgehog Extended Edition) is a hack of Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis by Hayate. It was discontinued in August 2008, after Hayate gave up on the hack due to the various bugs it had, but it was picked up again in December 2009.

This hack based on Sonic 1, This game plays like Sonic 1 but with the speed of Sonic 2 with CD abilities. Like CD it promotes exploration, collecting stones will reward you and also give you good futures automatically. New special stages in the future. This will not be the final build, however I intend to get it playable and presentable for the contest. Sonic 2 Long Version (which is released alongside Sonic 2 & Knuckles Long Version) is a more complete version of Sonic 2, which makes it somewhat similar to Sonic 2 Delta. This hack features four levels originally scrapped during Sonic 2's development. No levels have been changed, only added. This hack was written in hex, without the aid of any special hacking programs, because the creator uses a Mac, and no hacking tools had been released on that platform at the time of development.

Sonic the Hedgehog Extended Edition is a hack in progress by Cinossu of Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. In this version of the game, instead of new or fully edited zones, all the original zones are kept intact with minor editing to the acts. Instead, this hack extends the game beyond its original capabilities, including a zone map with warp rings to each act (much like in Sonic Advance 3), saving via SRAM slots (like in Sonic the Hedgehog 3), obtainable upgrades such as the Spin Dash and Super PeelOut (like in the Megaman X series) as well as a new type of ring, emerald, and special stage to add to the mix.While work has not been shown on the hack for a while publicly, a lot of work goes on in private. This is mostly Cinossu either restarting the entire thing from scratch (currently on the 5th restart since conception), or constantly adding and refining new features and ideas. The latest restart is most likely the last one, however, as the disassembly is now so modular that the various chunks can be restarted rather than the entire hack.
